Gov Early Day Motion (EDM) - #wco Equality (EDM 1175: SHARED PARENTING ORDERS)

Binley, Brian raised an interesting point.

Subject(s): Equality; Childcare; Family Courts; NRP Rights; Parenting

That this House believes that children are entitled to the love, guidance and support of both parents and a relationship with their wider family after separation and divorce unless certain restrictions apply, to ensure children can enjoy the benefits this gives; further believes in the desirability of creating a legal presumption of shared parenting orders if necessary, meaning parents are equally responsible for their children and those children spend a significant proportion of their time with each parent; and calls on the Government to recognise this need for a presumption of shared parenting in the family justice review.

Gov Ministerial Statement - #wco SocialWorkers (Justice: Healthcare workers, Social Workers and Social Care Workers)

Lansley, Andrew raised an interesting point.

Subject(s): SocialWorkers; Healthcare; LocalGov; Scrutiny

Safe, respectful and effective care is essential and should be what all users of health and social care services experience.

The vast majority of those who work in health and social care are committed individuals with a strong sense of professionalism who aspire to deliver the highest standards. However, where there is poor practice or behaviour that presents a risk to the public, it is vital that swift action is taken, whether by employers, or by national regulatory bodies.

You know it makes sense ... Remember that at an election, if a ward has 10,000 eligible voters in it, with a 45% (and that's relatively high!) turnout that means only 4,500 people actually vote .. if the MP is voted in with 40% (again relatively high!) of that turnout it means only 18% (1,800) of the people are effectively controlling the other 82% (8,200) !! Not exactly majority rule is it ???
Get involved and make a difference - otherwise, you have abdicated any right to EVER complain about the government in power and what they do!

Gov Early Day Motion (EDM) - #wco Equality (EDM 0034: BENEFITS SYSTEM AND SHARED PARENTING)

Sanders, Adrian raised an interesting point.

Subject(s): Equality; Childcare; Money; NRP Rights; Parenting

That this House notes that child benefit can only be paid to one parent; further notes that this unnecessarily discriminates against the other parent where parents are separated and maintain shared custody of children; further notes that this can further discriminate against one parent by preventing access to suitable housing and additional income to allow them to provide for children; further notes that this can lead to restricted access for one parent to see their children; and calls on the Government to take action to address these problems.

Subject(s): CMEC-CSA; Equality; Justice; Money; NRP Rights

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions how many parents without care have records on the post-2003 Child Support Agency computer system and make payments at pre-2003 rates.

Comment by #wco: So, 176,000 cases on the post-2003 system are using the pre-2003 payment rates ...

Mr Geraghty:
You should arrange, pending the introduction of the 3rd new system, to amend these cases to post-2003 rates.

NRP's paying maintenance through CMEC/CSA:
If you're on the pre-2003 rates, we would strongly suggest asking for a new assessment and get your local MP to write to them to arrange for transfer to the post-2003 CS2 computer system and rates.
